Obituary for La Verne R. "Vern" Schoh
La Verne was born in Caledonia, MN on February 23, 1936 to Marcella (Meyer) and Roy Schoh. He attended a one room school house in Winnebago Township during his elementary years. He graduated from Caledonia High School in 1953. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958 with one year in Texas, two years in England, and one year in Germany. Upon returning from the service, he attended Winona State University utilizing the GI bill. La Verne was a Life member of American Legion Post 595 in La Crescent, MN where he served as Commander, Vice Commander, Adjutant, a member of the Color Guard, Houston County Commander and District One Vice Commander. He was an active member of the 40/8 Voiture 830 in La Crosse, WI as Chef de Train, Chef de Gare, Lampist, and on the Locomotive Crew. He held a Life membership in VFW Post 3833 in Caledonia, MN. On May 13, 1967 he married Nancy Duzynski at the United Church of Christ in Eitzen, MN. La Verne was employed by Gould Battery in St. Paul, MN from 1961-1971, at Winona Industries in Winona, MN from 1971-1976. He then retired from G. Heileman’s in 1996 after 20 years of employment. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, two sons – Carl Roy (Marcella and Croy) of La Crescent, MN and Eric Raymond and Stephanie (Paige, Eric D. and Tyler) of Winona, MN. Two sisters – Bonnie Jean Schoh and Mary Lee Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Marcella, sister Dianne and her husband Donald Krueger, sister-in- law Diane and her husband Bryan Austin.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Fredrickson Funeral Home, Caledonia Chapel, 518 West Main Street, Caledonia, MN. A visitation will take place from 10:00 am until time of service. Burial with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia, MN following the service. All are welcome at a luncheon immediately following the burial at Elsie’s Restaurant in Caledonia, MN.
