Obituary for Marie P. Weaver

Marie Pauline (Roellich) Weaver, 89, of La Crosse passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Eagle Crest South memory care facility in La Crosse.

Marie was born on November 25, 1934 in La Crosse to Jacob and Elizabeth Roellich. She graduated from Central High School in La Crosse, and went on to earn her teaching degree from La Crosse State Teachers College and later her master’s degree. She taught for many years at Hamilton Elementary where she met and married Lee Weaver. After a brief break from teaching to raise two children, Marie returned to teaching at Longfellow Middle School before retiring in 1998. You couldn't keep her away from educating, and in her later years volunteered at Eagle Bluff Elementary in Onalaska.

Marie loved her birds and her flowers, was an avid spoon collector, had a wonderful collection of giraffe figurines, and faithfully watched the Game Show Network.

Marie is survived by her son, John (Debbie) of La Crosse; her daughter, Julie Weaver of Texas; along with three grandsons and two great-grandsons; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Elizabeth; her husband, Lee; sister, Lavina (Gilman) Hanson; brother, George (Bernice) Roellich; and sister, Eleanor (Rich) Wolfe.

John and Debbie would like to express overwhelming thanks to the wonderful staff at Eagle Crest South. A special thank you goes to Dr. Mary Bassing and her team from Gundersen Health System, and the Gundersen Health System Hospice nurses. Your love and care for Mom is appreciated more than you could know.

A celebration of Marie's life will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Woodruff Chapel, 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m., until the time of service, Friday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Coulee Region Humane Society.
