Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Hooverson


Robert “Bob” L. Hooverson, 78 of Stoddard, WI passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024 in the comfort of his home. Bob was born to Richard and Mabel (Scheck) Hooverson on March 28, 1945 in La Crosse, WI. Bob graduated from Viroqua High School in 1963 and served in the Army National Guard from 1964-1970. Bob married Rita Bosshardt on August 17, 1968 and was blessed with two children, Russell and Rochelle.

Bob started his career with Dahl Ford of La Crosse. After 5 years in the auto industry, he shifted gears and spent the next 40 years working as a diesel mechanic at La Crosse Truck Center. In retirement Bob followed his hobbies which included, mowing and working at the Vernon Vineyard winery, spending time with his family on many hunting and fishing trips and perfecting his homemade wine.

Bob had a love for the outdoors and would spend hours in his “back 40” tending to his trees, mowing, and soaking in nature all around him. During the summer months Bob, Rita, and the kids would spend countless weekends boating up and down the Mississippi River.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Rita of 55 years, his son Russell (Angie) Hooverson of Hudson, WI and his daughter Rochelle (Brian) Weaver of McFarland, WI. Bob was blessed with 5 grandchildren. Max and Sophia Hooverson and Ella, Cole and Ty Weaver. Bob is also survived by his brother David (Cathy) Hooverson and Nancy Hoff of La Crosse, WI and many nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Mabel and Richard Hooverson.

A visitation will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, located at 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd, La Crosse, WI.A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 24, 11:00 a.m. at Stoddard Community Methodist Church located at 900 Broadway Street, Stoddard, WI, 54658. There will be a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the start of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the following: Salvation Army of La Crosse, Coulee Region Humane Society, or Gundersen Medical Foundation (Hospice)

Our family is very thankful and appreciative for the care Bob received from Gundersen Hospice Agency. A special thank you to Jason, RN and Ashley, RN for your support and comforting presence.
