Geneva K. "Ginny" Wookey, 92, of La Crosse, died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility, La Crosse.
Ginny was born April 17, 1918, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Andrew and Marie (Peterson) Rindal.  She was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.  Ginny was a 1936 graduate of South High School in Minneapolis.  After graduation, she worked for the W.H. Barber Oil Company, where she met her future husband.  On April 14, 1945, Ginny married Earl Wookey at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Minneapolis.  In 1962, she and her husband moved to La Crosse where in 1971 they purchased the Guest House Motel.  They owned and operated the motel until their retirement in 1982.  After they retired, Ginny and Earl enjoyed traveling.  She was known as "Cookie" Wookey to the several generations of neighborhood kids she provided with cookies.  Earl preceded her in death on August 28, 2008.  Ginny was a member of D.A.R. and P.E.O. and also served on the board of First Congregational Church in La Crosse.
Survivors include her son, Brent (Kristi) Wookey of La Crosse; her daughter, Linda (Vern) Bottorff of Mason City, Iowa; three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Earl Rindal; two nephews, Gary (Linda) Rindal and Brian (Ellen) Rindal; and her cousin, Richard (Marie) Rindal.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her niece, Cheryl Majerus; and her sister-in-law, Olive Rindal.
Ginny's children privately laid her to rest in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, La Crosse.  The family invites friends to join them for a memorial service for Ginny that will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 2503 Main St., La Crosse.  Rev. Bill Hoglund and Rev. Kimberly Jordan will officiate.  There will be no visitation.  Memorials may be given to First Congregational Church, La Crosse, or to a charity of the donor's choice.  Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, (Woodruff Chapel), La Crosse, is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be sent at www.jandtfredrickson.com.
