Edna (Knutson) Poole, 99, of West Salem, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem.
She was born January 4, 1912, in La Crosse, the ninth child of 12 children to Sever and Louisa (Hintgen) Knutson.  Edna graduated from Central High School in La Crosse and then attended Western Wisconsin Vocational College also in La Crosse for three years.  She was a secretary for a broker in Chicago for seven years before she moved to San Diego, Calif., where she was a secretary for the school district for 47 years.  There she met her husband, Louis Poole and they were married July 10, 1964, in Winterhaven, Calif., and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1984.  Edna loved golf and watching it.  She enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing, painting and had many other artistic talents.  She also enjoyed all of her friends at the Y and at Salem Terrace.  Edna will always be remembered for her sense of humor and will be sadly missed.
Survivors include her step-son, Gerald (Katherine) Poole of Lakeside, Calif.; her step-granddaughter, Sandra (Alex) Troya of San Diego, Calif.; two step-grandsons, Alan (Dana) Hartley of Escondido, Calif. and Gregory Hartley of Hawaii; her nephews, Tom (Shirley) Thurston of Sarona, Wis., Don Emrick of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Jim (Liz) Knutson of Onalaska, and Jerry (Anne) Knutson of Floral City, Fla.; and her nieces, Florence (Marvin) Wigdahl of La Crosse and Karen Wagner of West Salem.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her step-daughter, Shirley Hartley; her brothers, Lloyd, Melvin, Roy, Edward, and Norval Knutson; her sisters, Josephine (Walter) Emrick, Theresa (Winfield) Thurston, Luella (Earl) Schultz, and Sarah, Edith, and Elsadia Knutson.
In accordance with Edna's wishes, her body will be cremated and there will be no services.  Her ashes will be interred at Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.  Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, (Jostad Chapel), West Salem, is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be sent at www.jandtfredrickson.com.
