Obituary for Jane H. Weiser

Jane Hazel (Malsch) Weiser

Jane Hazel (Malsch) Weiser, 70, of Onalaska, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2011, surrounded by her family at her home after a courageous battle with ALS.
She was born December 26, 1940, in Burlington, Wis., to Gordon and Hazel (Volkman) Malsch.  After her mother passed away in 1951, her father re-married and Edna Rhodes Malsch quickly became “Mom”.  Jane graduated from Lake Geneva High School in Lake Geneva, Wis., in 1958 and went on to receive her teaching degree from UW – Whitewater.  She earned her Masters Degree from UW – La Crosse in 1992.  Jane was also an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma.  Jane was an elementary school teacher for 34 years, enjoying 25 of those years at Franklin Elementary School in La Crosse, before retiring in 1999.  Over the years, she took great delight in seeing her former students as they grew and advanced through their lives.  She married Jerry Weiser in June, 1967 and they would later divorce.
Spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, was one of Jane’s greatest pleasures.  Her many wonderful friends and neighbors were also a delightful part of Jane’s life.  Jane was a very social person and loved to travel and visit with people. Germany, Austria and Japan were among her favorite travel destinations and everywhere Jane went, people remarked on her personality and kindness.  She kept in touch with pen pals from all over the world.  Another of Jane’s passions was home decorating and she shared this gift with many people over the years.  Jane’s own home epitomized her talent and eye for detail.
She is survived by her children: son, Matthew (Julie) Weiser of Minneapolis, Minn., daughter, Tracy (Ryan) Weiser-Reichenbach of Superior, Colo., and son, John (Kate) Weiser of Rochester, Minn.; her beloved sister, Judy Anderson of Mukwonago, Wis.; her brother-in-law, Cecil Dick of Burlington, Wis.; as well as 10 grandchildren, and her nieces and nephew.  Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel Volkman Malsch, Gordon Malsch, and Edna Rhodes Malsch; her brother, Gordon Malsch, Jr.; her sister, Gloria Dick; and her brother-in-law, Ralph Anderson.
A visitation celebrating Jane’s life will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011, beginning at 2:00 p.m. and concluding with a time of sharing at 4:00 p.m. at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Woodruff Chapel), 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Snacks and beverages will be provided near the conclusion.
A private family graveside service will be held at Hudson Cemetery, in Lyons, Wis., later in the Spring.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to ALS Association of Wisconsin or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be sent at www.jandtfredrickson.com
Jane would like to include a special thanks to Comfort Keepers and especially Penny, Evie, and Becky.
