Waldemar H. " Wally " Horstman
Waldemar H. "Wally" Horstman, 77, of Mindoro/Bangor, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse.
He was born November 26, 1933, in the Town of Barre to Eldor and Elsie (Niedfeldt) Horstman.  Wally attended parochial school in Bangor and graduated from Mindoro High School in 1951.  He was then drafted into the U.S. Navy, having served from 1955-1957.  On January 23, 1960, he married Helen Berendes at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Norwalk, Wis.  Wally purchased a milk route that he had for many years and also farmed during that time.  After selling the milk route, he focused on farming and raising his growing family.  Wally retired from farming in 2003 but continued to custom farm with his family until his death.  In addition to farming, some of his greatest joys included playing cards with several local card clubs, fixing stuff, helping others, Helen's cooking, and being with his grandchildren.  Wally also enjoyed spending time and visiting with his friends and neighbors and always found time to help them out.  He was a member of Bells Coulee Lutheran Church, rural Bangor.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Helen; seven children, Steve (Janet) of Sparta, Mark (Suzanne) of Fountain City, Wis., Diane (Jason) Larson of Houston, Minn., Julie (Craig) Singleton of Marietta, Ga., Jolene (Brian) Olson of Rochester, Minn., Neil of Bangor, and Heidi Horstman of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; 16 grandchildren, Elizabeth (AJ) Schlintz, Adam, Ross, and Victoria Horstman, Eric, Katie, and Alyssa Horstman, Elizabeth, Jared, and Amanda Larson, Pierson, Jordan, and Debreyana Singleton, and Brandon, Ashley, and Zachary Olson; three sisters, Mildred (Harold) Zeman, Doris Reamer, and Arlene (Dallas) Wegner; two brothers, Delvan (Elaine) and Glen (Judy); two brothers-in-law, Bob Garves and Ed Fisher; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elaine Garves and Delores Fisher; one brother, Verdell; a brother-in-law, Dave Reamer; and other relatives.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 11, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Bells Coulee Lutheran Church, N7289 CTH E, rural Bangor.  Pastor Vern Skarstad will officiate.  Burial will be in Burns Cemetery, Bangor.  Friends may call at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Hwy 162 and Hattan St., Bangor, on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Online condolences may be sent at
