Paul "Ed" Sauer, 73, of Eitzen, Minn., died Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse.
He was born June of 1937 in Indianapolis, Ind., to Paul W. and Elizabeth Sauer. Ed served in the United States Navy aboard the USS NOA. He loved his "tin can" Navy. Ed was employed as a meat cutter for over 45 years working at Kroger, K&S, Eitzen Locker, Quillin's Village, and most recently, Sam's Club until his retirement. In August of 1990, he married Lois (Vetsch) Myhre in Eitzen, Minn.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; two daughters, Kathy (Mike) Ketchell of Nashville, Tenn., and Crystal Bechtel of Eitzen, Minn.; one son, Eric (Stacey) Myhre of Marshall, Minn.; seven grandchildren; one sister, Marianne (Frank) Klobucar of Melbourne, Fla.; one brother, Dave Sauer of Greenwood, Ind.; and one sister-in-law, Mildred Sauer of Indianapolis, Ind.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Sauer; one sister-in-law, Marsha Sauer; and his special friend, "Patches".
In accordance with Ed's wishes, his body will be cremated and a small private family memorial service will be held. Chaplain Darigbe L. Sua will officiate. Military honors will follow the service by the Loveless-Eikens American Legion Post 191 of Caledonia, Minn., and the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. A Celebration of Ed's life for family, friends, and aquaintances will be Saturday, February 26, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Eitzen Community Center. In lieu of flowers, Ed requests memorials to the Eitzen Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or the La Crescent Animal Rescue Shelter. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Caledonia Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
