Obituary for Sigurd G. Kirkeeng

Sigurd G. Kirkeeng, 76, of Fish Creek Valley, rural Rockland, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem.

He was born June 14, 1934, on Fish Creek Ridge to Arthur and Gertrude (Larson) Kirkeeng. Sigurd was a 1952 graduate of Cashton High School. He was a very proud veteran serving in the United States Army and was also a past post commander and active member of the Anderson-Good American Legion Post 40 of Bangor for many years. On March 15, 1969, he married Arlis Wachholz at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minn., and they shared nearly 42 years of marriage. Sigurd worked as a semi-truck driver for various trucking companies for many years. He was a member of Fish Creek Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Rockland. Sigurd enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, playing bingo, and vegetable and flower gardening. He also enjoyed going on trips with Arlis, including a trip and ferry boat ride in Door County, Wis., and a trip to Branson, Mo. Sigurd was a loving man with a good heart who loved his family and his children and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Arlis; his four children, Eric Kirkeeng of Madison, Wis., Dale Kirkeeng of Cashton, Wis., Vicki Kirkeeng of Viroqua, Wis., and Kris Kirkeeng of Medford, Wis.; his five grandchildren, Amber, Greg, Christopher, Aren, and Ethan; one sister, Ruth Ann (David) Dummer of Beloit, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Diane Kirkeeng of West Salem and Luella Hoppe of Winona, Minn.; three brothers-in-law, Willard (Lorraine) Wachholz of Lewiston, Minn., Charles (Marlene) Wachholz of Kasson, Minn., and Harlan (Sharon) Wachholz of New Hope, Minn.; many nieces and nephews; and two special dogs, Chewy and Petunia.
Sigurd was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Stanley Kirkeeng; and one brother-in-law, Allyn Hoppe.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 13, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Fish Creek Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Rockland. Pastor John Stennes-Spidahl will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Bangor American Legion Post 40 and the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. Friends may call at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Hwy 162 and Hattan St., Bangor, on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  and also at the church on Thursday from 12 noon until the time of service.
