Jerome G. Servais
Jerome G. Servais, 81, of West Salem and formerly of St. Joseph Ridge, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Lakeview Health Center, West Salem.
He was born September 30, 1929, on St. Joseph Ridge to Roy and Marie (Wuensch) Servais. On October 2, 1951, Jerome married Loretta Kaiser at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Middle Ridge, and they have shared over 59 years of marriage. He farmed on St. Joseph Ridge all his life, until moving to West Salem. Jerome had a strong belief, motivation, and drive to succeed in dairy promotion. He served on and was the founder of many boards and organizations as well as being instrumental in starting various activities.  He was county president of the Farm Bureau, started the dairy tent at June Dairy Days, was a member of the St. Joseph Ridge Lions Club, started the pet barn at the La Crosse County Fair, served on the La Crosse County Land Conservation, Foremost Farms, Wisconsin Milk Marketing, and National Dairy Boards, was Wisconsin Master Agriculturalist, and was the 2002 June Dairy Days Parade Marshall. Jerome's passions in life were farming and family and he credits his wife and children for helping him to accomplish all of his achievements.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 60 years, Loretta; his five children, Pamela (Jeff) Kurisch of Barre Mills, Wis., Jane Servais of Rockville, Md., Paula (Nick) Kneifl of St. Joseph Ridge, Thomas (Shelly) Servais of St. Joseph Ridge, and Paul (Arlene) Servais of Arcadia, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Kate (Nate) Kurisch-Young, Anne (Nick) Young, Mary Kurisch, Nicole (Mike) Werner, Jason (fiancee, Katie) Kneifl, Shanna (Mike) Roe, Michael Servais, Jacob Servais, Jolene Servais, Jerome Servais, and Molly Servais; two great-grandchildren, Loretta Young, and Marina Werner, and two more on the way; two sisters, Marilyn Marx and Pat Stuber; three brothers, Donald (Marie) Servais, Dennis (Nancy) Servais, and Gary (Theresa) Servais; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Gertrude (Becker) Servais.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 210 W. Hamlin St., West Salem. Father Bob Hegenbarth will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at St. Joseph Ridge. Friends may call at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Jostad Chapel), 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem, on Tuesday beginning at 5:00 p.m. and concluding with a rosary at 7:45 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.
