Obituary for Gloria Ann Hundt

Gloria Ann Hundt, 88, of La Crosse, passed away April 12, 2024, at her home.

She was born December 20, 1935, in La Crosse County to Adrian “Whitey” and Hilda (Mathison) Cavadini. Gloria was a 1953 graduate of Cashton High School where she was proud to have been cheerleader for all four years.

On September 26, 1959, she married Thomas E. Hundt at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Middle Ridge; and together they welcomed three children, Caryn, Roderick “Ruhben,” and Tom.

What began as helping out for “a couple nights” led Gloria to her career as a waitress at Schmidty’s Restaurant for 34 years. During this time she met and made many long lasting friendships with the patrons and co-workers.

Gloria loved traveling with Tom. They traveled to many countries including Hawaii, Cancun, Puerto Plata, and twice to Jamaica. They went on several Caribbean cruises and they also took a very special cruise to Europe, visiting seven countries. She was also able to take a remarkable pilgrimage to Rome where she visited the Vatican and many other sacred places.

She was instrumental in the creation of the Little School History Park in Middle Ridge and continued to be a very active participant within the organization.

Gloria was very social; she was always eager to talk to people and make new friends anywhere and everywhere she went. She enjoyed genealogy and was a wealth of knowledge when it came to family histories for many families throughout the Ridge and Cashton and beyond. Gloria loved the holidays; she was a beautiful decorator, making her home beautiful for each and every holiday. She enjoyed planning each holiday gathering and preparing a banquet of food for her family, extended family, and various guests who may attend. She had quite the knack for making everything so special.

Survivors include her devoted husband for nearly 65 years, Tom; two sons, Roderick “Ruhben” and Tom; grandchildren, Benjamin (Jordan) Strand, Anthony Hundt, Blade Spindler, and Madeline Hundt; her sister, Sharon Kirchner; brother, Dan Cavadini; sister-in-law, Donna Hundt; brother-in-law, Tim Anderson; her very special nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved daughter, Caryn; and her sister, Vicki Anderson.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston Str., La Crosse. Father Brian Konopa will celebrate the Mass. A private entombment will be held in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery in La Crosse on a later date. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until the time of Mass, Thursday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Middle Ridge Little School History Park or Mary, Mother of the Church Parish.
