Kathleen E. DeGaetano, 67, of Onalaska, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, December 3, 2010.
She was born February 28, 1943, in La Crosse to John and Vera (Duffy) Desmond.  Kathleen attended Aquinas High School in La Crosse and graduated from St. Stephens High School in Port Huron, Mich., in 1961.  She received certification in medical records from Viterbo College in La Crosse.  On October 16, 1971, Kathleen married Corey DeGaetano at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman in La Crosse.  She served at Franciscan Skemp as a medical transcriptionist for 43 years.
Kathleen is survived by her husband of 39 years, Corey; three children, Jackie (Matt) Jurvelin of Baraboo, Wis., Katie DeGaetano of Chicago, Ill., and Tony (Karlie) DeGaetano of Onalaska; four grandchildren, Will, Gaby, and Frankie Jurvelin, and Jordan DeGaetano; three sisters, Sister Michon of La Crosse, Sister Rosemary of Eagan, Minn., and Margaret Ziegelmaier of Bristol, Wis.; one brother, Dennis (Julie) Desmond of Troy, Mich.; one sister-in-law, Catherine Desmond of Watertown, Wis.; and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John "Tony" Desmond; and one brother-in-law, Michael Ziegelmaier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 6, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1031 Main St., Onalaska.  Father Steve Kachel and Father David Desmond will concelebrate.  Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church on Sunday beginning at 4:00 p.m. and concluding with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.  Friends may also call at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass.  In lieu flowers, memorials are requested to be given to the Franciscan Skemp Cancer Center or Franciscan Skemp Hospice.  Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes, La Crosse, is assisting the family with the arrangements.  Online condolences may be sent at www.jandtfredrickson.com.
