Obituary for Ramon A. Stelloh

Ramon A. Stelloh of La Crosse, Wis., passed away on June 4, 2023, at Springbrook Memory Care Facility in Onalaska, Wis., at the age of 93.

Ramon was born on the family farm to Adolph and Hilda (Johns) Stelloh on September 22, 1929. He was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Barre Mills.

He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Thielker on November 16, 1950; they recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Ramon and Betty farmed side by side for all of their married life. In 2003, they retired from farming full time, moving up the road to a home they built that he called, “Heaven on earth.” He enjoyed woodworking and made many family keepsakes.

Ramon was an active member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church all of his life, faithfully serving on Church Council, School Board, Men’s Club, Choir, and Elders in various capacities.

Ray deeply loved his family. He was a kind and loving father and grandfather who taught valuable lessons to them by his example. They all have stories about their special time spent on the farm with him.

Ramon and Betty were never apart. Their strong and enduring marriage was blessed with fun filled family gatherings, playing cards with friends, dancing, singing, and traveling throughout the U.S.; he so appreciated the blessings God gave him.

Ramon is survived by his children, Debra (Theodore) Lambert, Janet (Jeffrey) Kastenschmidt, Valerie (Dean) Lee, Ramon (Sally) Stelloh, and David (Deanna) Stelloh; his grandchildren, Andrew (Katie) Lambert, Aaron (Emily) Lambert, Chad (Crystal) Kassera, Jesse (Rachel) Kassera, Jenna (Jesse) Geible, Dawn (Casey) Staige, Seth (Sara) Varnum, Emily (Travis) Allred, Luke Stelloh, Jacob (Katie) Stelloh, Charlie (Katelyn) Stelloh, Samuel (Shelby) Stelloh, and Louie Stelloh; 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elaine Stelloh; and brothers-in-law, Herbert Miller and Gary (Robin) Thielker.

Ramon was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; grandson, Joel Lambert; parents, Adolph and Hilda Stelloh; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wilbur and Helen Thielker; sister and brother-in-law, Arlys and Harry Schomberg; brother, Richard Stelloh; sister-in-law, LaVonne Miller; and sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and LaVerne Horstman.

A Christian Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, June 12, 2023, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Barre Mills. Vicar Keith Brassow will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until the time of service, Monday, at the church.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Springbrook and Brookdale for your loving care to this sweet man. Thank you to Gundersen Health System Hospice Program for end of life care. A special thank you to Rev. Andrew Schultz and Vicar Keith Brassow for their many comforting visits with us.

Should you go first and I remain, one thing I’d have you do. Walk slowly down that long long path for soon I’ll come to you. I heard your voice, I saw your smile, my memory restored. This is now my greatest joy, for I am with the Lord.
