Obituary for Ronald E. Lokken

Ronald E. "Ron" Lokken
Ronald E. "Ron" Lokken, 67, of West Salem, died Saturday, October 22, 2011, at his home.  He was born December 24, 1943, in La Crosse to Ervin and Melvina (Peterson) Lokken.  Ron grew up in West Salem and graduated from West Salem High School in 1962.  He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Medical Technology in 1966 and began working at Vernon Memorial Hospital where he met his future wife. He was called to military duty with the Army in 1969.  He served in Germany from 1969 until 1971 and became a member of Berg-Hemker-Olson American Legion Post 51 of West Salem upon his return.  Ron married Diane Latimer on October 16, 1971, in La Crosse. During this time he began his career at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital as a medical technologist and continued there for 39 years until his retirement in 2010.  In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Ron "Doc" was also a fan of auto racing and enjoyed going to races at the La Crosse Interstate Speedway as well as traveling to major racetracks throughout the country.  He loved family trips to Daytona Beach and various areas in Wisconsin.  Ron had a love of music that he passed on to his daughters.  He was very proud of his girls supporting them in all their endeavors.  Ron never missed any events in which they participated. In his retirement Ron attended games at Lambeau and Wrigley Field, mastered the game of Mahjong and competed in a family fantasy football league.  Most importantly he had more time to spend with his wife, his girls and their families.  Ron was a proud grandpa enjoying the spirit and personality of each grandchild.  He always had a kind smile and a big hug to share.  On October 16th of this year the family gathered to celebrate the life and love of Ron and Diane's 40 years of marriage.
