Obituary for Esther F. Fruechte


Esther (Wiemerslage) Fruechte was born January 19, 1915, to George and Matilda Wiemerslage in Allamakee County, Iowa. She became a member of the Lord's family through Holy Baptism on February 6, 1915. She went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 9, 2011, at the age of 96.
Esther graduated from Lansing High School, Lansing, Iowa, as well as Normal School Training for Teachers and became a school teacher in rural schools in Allamakee County, Iowa. She married Raymond Fruechte on June 10, 1937, and helped him with the family farm on Portland Prairie, Houston County, Minn. She was active in St. Luke's UCC as a Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher. Esther taught Vacation Bible School, Religious Release Time classes and joined the Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Spring Grove where she was very active in the church. In 1996, she was awarded Outstanding Senior Citizen of Houston County at the Houston County Fair. Esther also worked several years as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. Esther enjoyed traveling. They made several trips around the United States and Canada, to the Holy Land, and most recently to Connecticut for her granddaughters wedding and to Alaska to visit grandchildren and her great-grandchild. Esther was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Matilda; her husband, Raymond; her younger brother, Ervin; and granddaughter, Heather Bivona.
She is survived by her son, Duane (Doris) Fruechte of Trempealeau, Wis.; her daughter, Mary (Rod) Amundson of rural Spring Grove, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Richard Deters of Arden Hills, Minn., Douglas Deters of Wassila, Alaska, Brian Amundson (fiancee, Karena Dahlen) of La Crosse, Wis., Daniel Deters of Mounds View, Minn., Robert Amundson of Fair Oaks, Calif., Freidrich (Aga) Deters of Mounds View, Minn., Franz Deters of Wassila, Alaska, and Christelle (Sean) Rennie of Winona, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Karsten Deters of Wassilla, Alaska and Piper Amundson of La Crosse, Wis.; one sister, Evelyn Meyer of Lansing, Iowa; one brother, George (Muriel) Wiemerslage of rural Caledonia, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 13, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Ev. Free Church, Spring Grove, Minn. Pastor David Allen will officiate. Following a time of lunch and fellowship, burial will be in St. Luke's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Eitzen, Minn. Friends may call at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St., Caledonia, Minn., on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and also at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
