Obituary for James E. "Jim" Lee

James E. "Jim" Lee, 67, of La Crosse, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011, at his home.
He was born July 4, 1944, in La Crosse, to Russell and Mary (Ross) Lee, Sr. Jim attended Central High School in La Crosse, the class of 1962. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Jim entered boot camp at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, Calif., in 1962, and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War with the 5th and 7th Marine Infantry Regiments. Jim was honorably discharged in 1966, but he continued to serve in the Reserves until 1968. Jim was a lifetime member of the Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530 and the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52, both of La Crosse, the 1st Marine Division, and the 3rd Marine Division. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League and the Vietnam Veterans of America. On July 7, 1967, he married Judy Scott in Caledonia, Minn. Jim worked as a mechanic at G. Heileman Brewing Company in La Crosse until his retirement after 33 years. Jim loved playing bingo, attending La Crosse Logger baseball games, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1920 of La Crosse, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Judy of La Crosse; his daughter, Peggy (Jerry) Druschke of La Crosse; his two sons, Norman Lee and Jeffrey (Melissa) Lee, both of La Crosse; seven grandchildren, Justin, Shannen, Heath, Stephen, Sabastian, Roberta, and Addisen; his sister, Betty Frank of La Crosse; his special buddy and faithful companion, his dog Beethoven; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Casey Lee; his sister, Nancy Davis; and his brother, Russell Lee, Jr.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 15, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Woodruff Chapel), 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Rev. Ellen Rasmussen will officiate. Military honors will follow the funeral service by the American Legion Post 52 and the VFW Post 1530, both of La Crosse, and the United States Marine Corps Funeral Honor Guard. In accordance with Jim's wishes, his body will then be cremated and there will be no burial. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m. and concluding with a service by the Loyal Order of Moose at 6:45 p.m. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
