Obituary for Milton A. Meyer


Milton A. Meyer, 84, of Caledonia, Minn., died August 14, 2011, at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab, Houston, Minn., after an 11 month battle with cancer.  He was born November 25, 1926, in Caledonia, Minn., to George and Elsa (Schroeder) Meyer.   Milton attended elementary school at Caledonia Public and the Burg School in Mayville Township. He attended Caledonia High School for two years.  Milton was a life-long farmer in Winnebago Twp., together with his brother. He enjoyed running the family sawmill and built his house and most of the other farm buildings. Milton also was a sales representative and Division Manager for Schaeffer Mfg. Co., St. Louis, Mo.   He was a member of their Diamond Circle Club and also received the Marty J. Schwaab Achievement Award. On July 15, 1953, he married Ruth Albrecht at Grace Lutheran Church in Goodhue, Minn. This union was blessed with seven children. For many years Milton was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia. For confessional reasons, he joined St. Mark’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Onalaska, Wis., where he served as president for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; six children, Marie Meyer of Zumbrota, Minn., Grace (Gene) Schreyer of Mankato, Minn., John (Linda) Meyer of Stewartville, Minn., Lois (Carlston) McKenzie of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Dorothy (James) Abbott of Skykomish, Wash., and Paul (Cheryl) Meyer of Eau Claire, Wis.; 18 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, John (Wendy) Abbott of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Irene (Robert) Stock of Waukon, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Chrysta Schmelzer of Jackson, Wis., and Karen Meyer of Caledonia, Minn.; and many nephews and nieces.   
Milton was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Bernice Abbott; one brother, Lloyd; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Meyer; one nephew, Richard Meyer; and one brother-in-law, Edwin Schmelzer. 
A visitation will be Sunday, August 21, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St. Caledonia. Burial will be Monday, August 22, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia. A memorial service will then be held Monday, August 22, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 112 9th Ave. N., Onalaska, Wis. Pastor R. Dommer will officiate.
