Elaine C. Wilhelm, 84, of Caledonia, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at Caledonia Care and Rehab.
She was born September 16, 1926, in Caledonia to Fremont and Hannah (Schroeder) Schulze. After graduating from Caledonia High School, Elaine attended one year of secretarial school in La Crosse. On April 24, 1946, she married Edwin Paul Wilhelm at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Together they farmed in Union Township, rural Caledonia, Minn., for many years. In addition to farming, Elaine worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Caledonia Nursing Home for almost 30 years until her retirement. On April 4, 1993, Paul preceded Elaine in death. Elaine was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Hokah, Minn., and then Caledonia, Minn., and served on the Ladies Aid in both congregations. She was also a member of the Union Ridge Homemakers and the Union Ridge 4H Clover Blossoms. In her later years, Elaine took great delight in tending with care her yard, garden, and grove, transforming it into a beautiful place of serenity.
Survivors include three daughters, Paulette Wilhelm and Nancy (Gerald) Diersen, both of Caledonia, and Kaye (Rick) Denstad of Brownsville, Minn.; one son, Eugene Wilhelm of Caledonia; a special adopted daughter, Kathy (Dave) Zarling of Rochester, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren on the way; two brothers, Leland Schulze of Brownsville, Minn., and Gene (Rita) Schulze of Caledonia; four sisters-in-law, Joanne Schulze, Dorothy Schulze, and Ruth Snodgrass, all of Caledonia, and Dorothy Hunzeker of La Crescent, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Janette and Karen Wilhelm; one daughter-in-law, Marie Wilhelm; one grandson, Jessie Wilhelm; one brother, Garland Schulze; one sister-in-law, Ann Schulze; two brothers-in-law, Bob Snodgrass and Norman Olson; one niece, Sally Schulze; and three nephews, Jason Schulze, Steven Snodgrass, and Gerald Olson.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 29, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Caledonia United Methodist Church, 308 N. Kingston St. Rev. Mark Bengtson will officiate. Burial will be in Union Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St., Caledonia, on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
