Obituary for Charlotte R. Burmester

Charlotte R. Burmester, 84, of Caledonia, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Caledonia Care and Rehab. She was born February 28, 1933, at the Caledonia hospital to Charles and Luella (Pieper) Schauble. Charlotte attended Caledonia High School and graduated second in her class. On June 11, 1952, she married Harold Burmester at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia, and he preceded her in death in 1985. In addition to working as a nurses’ aid, Charlotte was employed in various jobs in the Caledonia area. She enjoyed dancing to old-time music and playing cards with her fellow senior citizen members. She was an active member at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church for many years and was a member of the Senior Hearts. Charlotte was known for her warm smile and compassion for anyone she met, and was loved by many. She was content with what she had even when life dealt her many challenges. Survivors include two daughters, Jane (Dan) Cerney of Hernando, Fla., and Mary Lou (Allan) Ross of St. Joseph, Missouri; one son, Robert (Angela) Burmester of Mabel, Minn.; one son-in-law, James Carr of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Bernice Meiners of Caledonia; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Charlotte was preceded in death by her daughter, Dianne Carr; her son, Wayne Burmester, her granddaughter, Alex Ross; three sisters, Evelyn (George) Beitlich, Marvella (Miles) Kohlmeyer, and Alice (John) Korthals; one sister-in-law, Marvilla (Edwin) Kinneberg; and one brother-in-law, LeRoy Meiners. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 1, 2018, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 650 N. Kingston Street, Caledonia. Rev. Jon Wolff will officiate. Private family burial will be in Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Eitzen, Minn. at a later date. A visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. John’s Building Fund. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Caledonia Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
