Obituary for Lois Harris

Lois Harris, 87, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully with her two daughters at her side on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse. She was born on July 13, 1930 to Peter and Geneva (Johnson) Erickson. She grew up in Ettrick, Wis. and attended schools in Ettrick and Galesville, Wis. In her youth, Lois played softball, skied, and played trombone in the marching band. She married Ronald Harris on November 15, 1957, in Ettrick, Wis., and they built their home on Blackhawk Place in La Crosse, where they raised their two daughters, Kari and Rhonda, and where they lived for the past 60 years. Lois was an avid golfer and played for many years at Maple Grove Country Club, where she won the club championship 11 times. Lois was very proud of her two hole-in-ones. She often played golf with her husband Ronald and his friends, and was a quietly fierce competitor. She also loved to play bridge, and played with many dear friends in multiple bridge groups. Ronald and Lois started Coulee Farm Nursery with Ronald’s father and other members of his family. She ran the office, kept the books, and made sure the nursery yard always looked its best. Most of all, Lois loved being a wife to her husband Ronald, a mother to her two daughters, and a grandmother to her four grandchildren, Christina, Genna, Hans, and Britta. She loved watching her grandchildren in all of their school activities, especially music and sports. She is survived by her Husband of 60 years, Ronald; two daughters, Kari (Steven) Bartingale of Stillwater, Minn. and Rhonda (Stephen) Rekstad of Eden Prairie, Minn.; four grandchildren, Christina and Genna Bartingale, and Hans and Britta Rekstad; one brother, Glenn (Ann) Erickson; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, La Crosse. Pastor Harald Bringsjord will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A private burial will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Gundersen Medical Foundation, or to the family, which will be donated to the Foundation. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at A special thanks to Dr. Bassing, Deb, Brenda, Dr. Ojelabi, Dr. Driscoll, Krista, Rachel, Sara, Bre, and Carrie at Gundersen Health Systems for all of their amazing help and support.
