Obituary for Arnold "Arnie" Hansen

Arnold “Arnie” Hansen, 95, of La Crosse, passed away on Jan. 31, 2018, at Gundersen Health System. He was born September 29, 1922 on a farm west of Viborg, South Dakota, to Marinus and Marie Hansen. He and his parents and younger brother farmed there until war was declared after Pearl Harbor was bombed and Hitler was causing trouble in Europe. The call for duty came in 1942 to join the Army. Three years and three months later, with 13 months in Germany, he was discharged at Camp McCoy, Wis. With no desire to go back to the farm, Arnie went to Coyne Electric School in Chicago. He came back to La Crosse and served his electrical apprenticeship and met his future wife , Delores Niedbalski, Married August 13, 1949. In 1951, he was offered a job with Howard Wettstein and worked there till August, 1959. He and his family moved to Moorhead, Minn. to work in service that led to a territory sales manager for Westing House Electric Co. Retiring from sales in June 1988, he and his wife, Delores spent winters in Texas and summers at the lake in Minn. In 1998, they gave up the traveling and moved back to La Crosse, where Delores passed away three weeks later. Arnie then decided to stay in La Crosse and in 2001 he found and joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church as his church home. He served three years on the church council, Followed by volunteering on the church building and grounds committee doing maintenance work. He was a paid-up-for-life member of the American Legion since 1957, currently at the Roy L. Vingers post #52 in La Crosse with military honors at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores; two oldest sons Patric and Michael; brother, Edwin and his wife, Dorothy; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Francis Niedbalski; daughter-in-law, Laurie Hansen; plus special friends, Connie and Evie Lee. He is survived by three sons, Robert Hansen, James (Paula) Hansen, and Gerald (Virginia) Hansen. Daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hansen; sister-in-law, Sandra Kotinek; brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Patty Neidbalski; six grandchildren, Heather (Joel) Quamme, Hilary (Monty) Denn, Jamie Hansen, Michael Hansen, Mathew Hansen, and Douglas Hansen; two great-grandchildren Anara and Zachary Denn; plus many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4141 Birch St, La Crosse, WI 54601. Pastor Harald Bringsjord will officiate. Following the memorial service military honors will be rendered at the church by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse. Entombment will be held at a later date at the Historic Garden Mausoleum at Oak Grove Cemetery La Crosse. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory are in charge of arrangements.
