Obituary for Marion E. Peterson

Marion E. Peterson, 89, of La Crosse, passed away, Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Bethany-St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse. She was born April 21, 1928, in Le Sueur, Minn., to Fredrick and Esther (Dahn) Miller. Marion was a 1946 graduate of Arlington High School, Arlington, Minn. She worked as a telephone operator and eventually became chief telephone operator. On Nov. 1, 1952, Marion married Roger E. Peterson in Winona, Minn., and to this union five children were born. While her children were of school age, Marion worked within the La Crosse School District at Longfellow Middle School as a cook. She then began employment at La Crosse Footware and worked there until her retirement. Together Marion and Roger shared 55 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on June 6, 2007. Marion enjoyed bowling and was a part of a bowling league at South Lanes in La Crosse. Survivors include her five children, Barry (Sharon) Peterson of Grand Forks, N.D., Russell (Bobbie) Peterson of Madisonville, La., David Peterson of Coon Valley, William Peterson of La Crosse, and Lea Ann (Greg) Bubnich of Madison; five grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Candi, Nick, and Timothy; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert Wiemann; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Marion was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers in infancy; and two sisters, Lucy Wiemann and Lois Christiansen. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Rev. John Stennes-Spidahl will officiate. Burial will be held in the spring in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday, both at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, La Crosse. In lieu of flowers, memorials are sincerely and respectfully requested and may be given to Bethany-St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse.
