Edward A. Garves, 90, of La Crosse, died Thursday, June 2, 2011, at his home.
He was born November 30, 1920, in the Town of Burns to Adolph and Elizabeth (Huxsahl) Garves. Ed was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. During his 38 year career from 1939 to 1977, he served in various places throughout the world, retiring at Fort Ord, Calif. Ed enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a major love for auto racing.
Survivors include his sister, Donna Cook of Colfax, Wis.; his brother, Robert Garves of Bangor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bernard Garves; his brother-in-law, Everett Cook; and his two sisters-in-law, Elaine and Dorothea Garves.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, June 5, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Hwy 162 and Hattan St., Bangor. Burial will follow in Burns Cemetery with military honors by the Anderson-Good American Legion Post 40 of Bangor and the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard.
