Obituary for Harlan James Oldendorf

Harlan James Oldendorf, 71, of West Salem, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at Benedictine Manor of La Crosse. He was born Aug. 10, 1946, in La Crosse, to Arthur and Bessie (Brekke) Oldendorf. Harlan attended Blair Schools and graduated in 1964. He served in the U. S. National Guard for six years. He worked for Presto Industries for some time, and then went to UPS where he worked until he retired in 2007. Harlan was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1967 until 1973. He was a member of the West Salem Lions Club. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events such as, hockey, football, baseball, and soccer and taking care of his yard. Survivors include his wife, Connie (Krenz) Oldendorf, daughter, Kris (Jeff) Busse and their children, Hunter Busse; Hannah (Kyle) Young, and Alyssa Busse; his son, Dale (Nichol), and their sons Isaac, and Joseph; his beloved dog, Ally; his brother, Art (Mary) Oldendorf, his sister, Annette; his brothers-in-law, Tom (Janet) Krenz and Jim Krenz; his sister-in-law, Shirley Berg; great-grandchildren Kelsey and Preston Young and many nieces and nephews. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Bessie Oldendorf; step-mother, Alice Oldendorf; nephew, Christopher Oldendorf; father-in-law and mother in law, Murray and Irma Krenz; sisters-in-law, Lani Krenz, Kay Mortenson, and Mary Krenz; and his brother-in-law, Jim Berg. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., January 6, 2018, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 359 N. Leonard St., West Salem. Pastors Jonathan and Jean Schmidt will officiate. Burial will follow in Neshonoc Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Jostad Chapel, West Salem, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at
