Obituary for Lorraine M. Severson

Lorraine M. (Merfeld) Severson, 87, of West Salem, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem. She was born in La Crosse on March 4, 1930, to Matthew and Clara (Strasser) Merfeld. She graduated from Aquinas High School in 1948. Lorraine married Jerry Severson on August 4, 1951, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, La Crosse. Lorraine worked as a library aide for 23 years at West Salem Elementary School. She enjoyed sewing, word puzzle books, making decoupage plates and playing BINGO at Mulders; but the thing she enjoyed the most were visits from her grandchildren. Lorraine is survived by her sons, Steven (Corinne), Gary (Peggy), Thomas (Mary) and David (Jan); daughter-in-law, Nancy (Keith) Schmig; grandchildren, Lindsay Severson (Dan), Hannah (Tim) Dakin, Abby (Ben) Nichols, Matthew (fiancé, Mary) and Ethan Severson, Brian Leis (Hannah Rose), Becky (Ryan) Buisman, Krista (Cory) Wilson and Dana Leisgang; great-grandchildren, Carter, Taylor, Haley, Tessa, Makenna, and Brielle; siblings, Dolores Pederson, Richard (Marlene) Merfeld, Joan (Ronald) Faas, Jeannette Delagrave, Patricia (Richard) Grathen, Carol Tanke, Michael (Cheryl) Merfeld and Sue (Dave) Molledahl; and sister-in-law, Sandra (Donald) Schultz. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; herhusband, Jerry; son, Paul; sister, Marlene Robertson; two infant brothers; brothers-in-law, Carrol Pederson, James Squier, Gene Delagrave and Willard Tanke. A funeral Mass will be at 4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 210 W. Hamlin St., West Salem. Father Douglas Robertson and Deacon Bob Zietlow will officiate. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of mass Thursday at the church. A burial will be held on Friday at Neshonoc Cemetery, West Salem. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Jostad Chapel, West Salem, is in charge of arrangements.
