Obituary for Krista Mae Beron

Krista Mae Beron, 39, of Bangor passed away, Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at Gundersen Health System, following a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher. Krista was born Nov. 6, 1978, in La Crosse, to Cheryl Gilster and Michael Dunnum. She was a 1997 graduate of West Salem High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in art education. In true Krista fashion, the pursuit of new challenges and successes, her path led her back to UW-La Crosse, where she earned a master’s degree in education/professional development. Krista found her passion in life, art and teaching. She taught in the West Salem School District from 2004 until 2016. Krista loved all of her students as if they were her own; her coworkers became extensions of her family; and that is what made her teaching a true gift. Above all else, Krista’s priority in life were her two boys, Jack and Brock. They brought the most joy and amusement to her life. Together, they enjoyed pool time, Nerf gun competitions, and many other fun activities. Krista’s love and appreciation for her boys was unlimited to their quick and erratic changes in interest and character. She never failed to keep up with their wants. Survivors include the holders of heart, her two boys, Jack and Brock Beron; mother, Cheryl Gilster of Bangor; father, Michael (Karla) Dunnum of Viroqua; stepfather, Paul Gilster of West Salem; sisters, Jerri Lynn Johnson (Randy) of Bangor and Anna Dunnum of Viroqua; brother, Mikkel (Jaclyn) Dunnum of Onalaska; nephews, Grady and Connor; nieces, Dani and Elise; loving friend, Brad Crogan; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends – all who will dearly miss her. Krista was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Clifford and Jeannette Hagen; paternal grandparents, Myron and Ellen Mae Dunnum; uncle, Ronald Hagen; and great-aunt, Myrtle Brewer. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Fox Hollow Banquet Hall, 3287 County Road O, Barre Mills. Pastor Stephanie M. Steiner will officiate. Following the service, there will be a time of sharing. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday, at Fox Hollow Banquet Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Bangor Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at www.jandtfredrickson.com. Although Krista’s life would seem all too brief, remember, it is the quality of existence, helping and teaching others that far exceeds the quantity of time one lives.
