Obituary for Lois M. Goetzinger


Born Feb.19, 1923, to Roy and Freda (Palmlund) Hanke of Brownsville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Caledonia Care and Rehab of natural causes. Lois along with her siblings, attended the Caledonia High school. She graduated in 1941 and married Ervin “Casy” Goetzinger on Oct. 27, 1943. They resided on Freeburg Ridge, south of Caledonia, for many years. Eventually they made their home in Caledonia where Lois worked in the kitchen at the Caledonia Hospital-Nursing Home and as a secretary for the family business, Goetzinger Earth Moving. Casy preceded Lois in death on November 26, 1996. Lois was faithful to her church, family, and friends. She enjoyed a good cup of coffee, challenging game of cards, and visiting with the ladies of the “Lois Club”. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed a very special relationship with her daughter-in-law, Bonnie. She is survived by her oldest son, Mark (Bonnie) Goetzinger; granddaughters, Patricia Goetzinger and Barb (Al) Schmitz; great-grandchildren, Jack, Max, Alayna Lois, and Emma Jean, all of Caledonia; special family, Lorilyn Dehning, and Danielle (Jeremy) Myhre and their children Owen and Leah, of Spring Grove. nieces, Donnelle Casler, Deanne (Mark) Saari, Sandra Block, and their children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Lois was preceded in death by her beloved children; daughter, Denice; and two sons, Neil and Joel; her parents, Roy and Freda; In-laws, Henry and Emma Goetzinger; brother, Dale Hanke; sister, June Hanke; sister-in-law, Donna; and nephews, Lee Hanke and Joe Casler. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 650 N. Kingston St., Caledonia. Rev. Jon Wolff will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will follow in the St. John’s Ev. Lutheran School Gymnasium. A visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Houston County Historical Society or the St. John’s Ev. Lutheran School Quality Education Fund. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home and Crematory, Caledonia Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to thank all of Lois’ caregivers for their kind and compassionate care.
