Obituary for Selmer T. Tweten

Selmer T. Tweten Jr, born May 15, 1936, to Selmer and Ruth (Halverson) Tweten, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 13, 2017. He was a graduate of Houston High School in 1954. On June 17, 1961, he married Sharon Glissendorf at the Hokah Methodist Church. Together they had two children, Peggy and Dan. Selmer worked 40 years as a farmer and John Deere parts man. He was also employed at Alco and Miken Sports until his retirement in 2008. He enjoyed collecting and restoring John Deere tractors and toys, tractor pulling, playing cards with friends, and helping others. Selmer was involved in his church, 4-H, Circle-A Saddle Club, and the Caledonia Founders Day. Selmer was an honest, dedicated, fun loving and true friend. His sense of humor and teasing nature made wonderful memories for those who knew him. A special joy in his life was time spent with family. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter, Peggy (Bruce) Meiners; his son, Dan; two granddaughters, Emily (Patrick) Larson and Rachel Meiners; four great-grandchildren, Logan, Kaleb, Alexis, and Blake Larson; a sister, Ruby (Herb) Highum; a brother, Robert (Carol) Tweten; and two sisters-in-law, Nancy and Kay Tweten; as well as beloved nieces and nephews; very special in-laws; family and friends. Selmer was proceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Dale and Ida Mae Glissendorf; two brothers, Jerome and Donald; as well as infant nephews. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Steven E. Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday both at the church. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Caledonia Chapel is in charge of arrangements. On line condolences may be sent at
