Obituary for Joel D. Kirchner

Joel D. Kirchner
Joel D. Kirchner, 19, of Mindoro, was unexpectedly taken from us on Saturday, May 21, 2011, due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born November 26, 1991, in La Crosse to Davey and Dawn (Severson) Kirchner.  Joel was a 2010 graduate of Melrose-Mindoro High School.  He loved that school and everyone there loved him as well.  He was on the prom court and was also homecoming king his senior year.  Joel went on to UW-L, where he played football his freshman year.  Football was Joel's passion in life.  His goal someday was to be a football coach and an elementary school teacher.  During the summers, he worked with ACT Concrete of Mindoro.  Joel enjoyed hunting with his friends at the Cattleman's Club, spending weekends at Patterson's cabin, and playing cards with his grandparents on Sundays.  Joel loved everyone and life will never be the same without him.
Survivors include his father, Davey "Crockett" (Sandra) Kirchner of Mindoro; his mother, Dawn Severson of Holmen;  two brothers, Kyle Kirchner and Jacob Campbell, both of Mindoro; paternal grandparents, Vilas "Pete" and Janice Kirchner of West Salem;  his paternal aunt, Karen Kirchner of West Salem; his paternal uncle, Richard "Dick" (Debbie) Kirchner of Melrose; his maternal aunt, Debby Hirshfield of Illinois; his maternal uncle, Danny Severson of Missouri; his grandmother, Phyllis Sandvick of Onalaska; his uncle, David (Cindi) Sandvick of Holmen; two aunts, Tina (Troy) Beeler of Inver Grove Heights, Minn. and Kristi (Mitch) Larson of Marshfield, Wis.; his great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, and friends; and his special dog, Maggie.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roger and Hilda Severson; his paternal uncle, Danny Kirchner; and his grandfather, Harold Sandvick, Jr.
Funeral services for Joel will be combined with the funerals for TJ Storandt and Joshua Koss and will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the Melrose-Mindoro High School gymnasium, N181 State Hwy 108, Melrose.  Pastor Janet Wollam will officiate.  Following the service, burial for Joel and TJ will be in Farmington Cemetery.  A combined visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  For those who would like to attend the visitation but will not be able to stay for the funeral, we ask that you please try to come during the first half of the visitation if possible.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.  Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Jostad Chapel), West Salem, is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be sent at
