Obituary for Erma M. Schroeder

Erma Mae (Wadel) Schroeder, 92, of West Salem and formerly of Rockland, passed away on September 12, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 2, 1925, to Robert and Theresa (Jerome) Wadel. She attended Upper Burns School and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Bangor. She married Ervin Schroeder on August 14, 1945, at the parsonage of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran in Bangor. The couple resided in Rockland for six years, then moved to Fish Creek where they farmed until 1984. They moved back to Rockland where Erma resided until 2014. In April of 2014, she moved to Salem Terrace in West Salem. Erma retired in 1991 from Northern Engraving in Sparta where she worked for 29 years. Erma had a special bond with her sister, Jean. They phoned daily to discuss local news, weather, and current events. Erma enjoyed reminiscing with her family and friends, often recalling memories and details others had long forgotten. She always wanted to know what was “new” with her children and grandchildren. Erma was very proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She will be greatly missed. Erma is survived by her children, Donna (Ronald) Brown of West Salem, Connie Schroeder of Onalaska, and Robert (Sharon) Schroeder of Southern Pines, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Derrick (Terri) Brown,Ryan (Dana) Brown, Robbie (Tara) Brown, Danielle (Corey) Gilbertson, Kyle Schroeder, Tyler Schroeder (special friend, Noella), and Emily (Brandon) Rickertsen; 11 great-grandchildren, Nikolas, Jonah, Aiden, Kennedy, Finley, Owen, Hannah, and Josiah Brown, and Alexia, McCarran, and Brooks Gilbertson; her sister, Jean Eggen; and many nieces and nephews. Erma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ervin in 2000; son, Gary in 2014, two sisters, Norma Lodoen in 1988 and Vivian Helgeson in 1995. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church or School, and Gundersen Health System Hospice Program. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church 401 16th Ave. N., Bangor. Rev. Roy Hefti will officiate. Burial will follow at Burns Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Bangor Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
