Obituary for Sylvia S. Miller

Sylvia S. Miller, of West Salem, died Friday, November 12, 2010, at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem, at the age of 79 years.
Sylvia was born on March 20, 1931, in North Bend, Wis., to John and Sophia (Horman) Garbers.  She attended the Prairie School and Parochial School in Bangor.  After graduation from Bangor High School, Sylvia began working at Union State Bank in West Salem and then at First Federal in La Crosse.  She went on to work for Dr. Lloyd at the West Salem Clinic and finished her career at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse as a data processor, retiring after 26 years in 1993.  On January 10, 1953, she married Gordon Miller at St. John's Lutheran Church in Barre Mills.  For 22 years, Sylvia and Gordie enjoyed traveling to Arizona for the Cubs spring training and never missed one of their games during that entire time.
Sylvia leaves her loving husband of nearly 57 years, Gordie; three sisters, Louise Evans of Bangor, Elaine Stellick of Byron, Minn., and Dorothy Iverson of La Crosse; three brothers, Ed Garbers of Holmen, Le Roy (Carol) Garbers of Rockford, Ill., and Henry (Nadine) Garbers of Racine, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie (Bob) Schroeder and Deanna (Don) Hodges; two brothers, Arthur and Willis Garbers; and three brothers-in-law, Dick Evans, Art Stellick, and George Iverson.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, W3565 CTH M, Barre Mills.  Rev. Andrew Schultz will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Barre Mills.  Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes, (Jostad Chapel), West Salem, is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be sent at
