Obituary for George H. Olson

George Harland Olson, 84, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Hillview Health Care Center. He was surrounded by family. George was born on June 10, 1933, in La Crosse to George and Ragna (Isakson) Olson. He graduated from Logan High School before proudly serving four years in the United States Air Force. On Oct. 24, 1959, George married Irene Kaiser. Together they raised three children and were the proud grandparents to seven. They were married 43 years until Irene’s passing in 2003. He is survived by his son, Mark (Kathy) Olson of La Crosse; his daughter, Paula (Tim) Boldt of Rochester, Minn. and his daughter, Pamela (Dave) Molin of Woodbury, Minn.; his seven grandchildren, Jordan, Jared, and Joshua Olson, Rebecca and Katherine Boldt, and Drew and Evan Molin; his sister, Janice Nehring, whom remained a best friend throughout his life. George is also survived by many more family and friends. In addition to his wife, George was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elaine Silha. George loved his wife Irene, his family, the United States Air Force, American-made cars, the Green Bay Packers, and Snicker Bars. Many thanks to the professionals at Hillview Health Care Center who helped him in his last days, the Veteran’s Administration, and to the many at Gundersen Lutheran who have helped him the last 20 years through his various health struggles. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Pastor Stephanie M. Steiner will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse and the United States Air Force Funeral Honor Guard. A visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of service, Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gundersen Medical Foundation at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Woodruff Chapel, La Crosse, is in charge of arrangements.
