Obituary for Inez M. Labus


Inez M. Labus Inez M. Labus, 94, of West Salem passed away peacefully at Mulder Health Care Facility in West Salem, Thursday, August 31, 2017. She was born to Iver and Millie (Fryseth) Reed on December 23, 1922, in Crawford County, Wisconsin. Inez graduated from Gays Mills High School and La Crosse State Teachers College. On December 23, 1943, she married Dean Labus. They farmed on the Labus home farm until 1970. They began and operated one of the first choose and cut Christmas tree farms in the area for many years. Inez's ability to shear the perfect Christmas tree was marveled by many. She enjoyed selling trees, especially the yearly groups of school children who came to pick out their trees. Inez was active in Christ Ev. Lutheran Ladies Aid and Altar Guild, Neshonoc Walker Homemakers Club, and various card clubs. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever was in need. Inez made beautiful pine cone wreaths and enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, and reading. She is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Terre) Labus and Jon (Lynette) Labus; four grandchildren, Daniel Labus, Dana Labus, Amy (R.L.) Labus-Olson, and Andrew (Ann) Labus; five great-grandchildren, Gavin Labus, Aidan Olson, and Tyson, Landon and Gram Labus. Inez is also survived by her sister, Lila (Karl) Oppriecht; sister-in-law, Verna Reed;and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dean; daughter-in-law, Dolora Labus; granddaughter, Angela Labus; brothers, Rayness and William Reed; sisters, Lillian and Priscilla Reed, Delores Schroeder, and Alice Craig; brothers-in-law, Berger Olson, Reuben Schroeder, and Winfred Craig. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church, 500 Park St., West Salem. Rev. Galen J. Riediger will officiate. Burial will follow in Neshonoc Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday, both at Christ Ev.
