Obituary for Juanita Michelsen

Juanita Kathleen Michelsen, 86, of Caledonia passed away Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Mom was born in Mabel, Minn., August 24, 1930, to Oscar & Evelyn (Welch) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed in Mabel. Mom was united in marriage to Neuton Michelsen and together they shared over 50 years of marriage before dad's passing in 2000. They were blessed with three children Barbara, David, and Kathleen. Mom was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. She worked hard all of her life and put everyone’s needs before her own. She loved spending time with family and friends. Mom was very giving and always welcomed you into her home. The coffee pot was always on. Mom's faith was never ending. She was active with Immanuel Lutheran Church. She served as chairperson of the annual church rummage sale for many years and was active in the church circle. Pastor Meyer and mom had many “feisty” conversations over the years and she enjoyed the time they spent together. We want to thank Pastor Meyer who was there with us to wish her farewell on her next journey. Mom was active in the VFW women's organization and won recognition as the top poppy sales person year after year. Mom loved Christmas and was known for baking many different varieties of Christmas cookies. She would bake them only to box them up and give them away. Mom and dad loved to go to garage sales and auctions over the years. She found many treasures on their adventures. Mom loved country music and especially Loretta Lynn. “Coal Miner’s Daughter” was her favorite song. Mom was able to give a coal miner hammer (from dad’s collection) to Mooney (Loretta’s husband) when they were in La Crosse for a concert. Mom is survived by her two daughters, Barbara (Richard) Pervisky and Kathy Michelsen (Ron Ewing); four grandchildren, Wendy (August) Hammes, John Pervisky (Jessica McCabe), Heather (Adam) Ewing, and Jean (Jim) Haberichter; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Pierce, Jasper Pervisky, and Sadie Ewing. She is further survived by two sisters, Cheryl Pluhar and Lolie (Glenn) St. Mary; two brothers, David (Marion) Olson and Chuck (Janet) Olson; one sister-in-law, Elaine Olson; and many special nieces and nephews who were so very good to Mom; she loved you all. Mom also had a great network of friends who meant the world to her: Rita, Iyla, Susan, Kay, Jan, Irene, Bonnie, Betty... the list goes on and we do not want to forget anybody. We would like to thank family and friends for being there for Mom. In addition to our Dad, Mom was preceded in death by our brother, David; her parents, Evelyn and Oscar Olson; her brother, Reggie Olson; her sister and brother-in-law, Mackie & Loren Tingesdal; her sister, Frances; and her brother-in-law, Chuck Pluhar.
