Obituary for Monica A. Schneider

Monica Ann (Sierakowski) Schneider Monica Ann (Sierakowski) Schneider, 83, of Onalaska and formerly of Madison, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016. Monica was born September 7, 1933, to Elizabeth (Pepke) and Louis Sierakowski in Berlin, Wis. She attended the one-room Bush School in rural Berlin through eighth grade and graduated from Berlin High School in 1951. Monica was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading about famous Hollywood personalities and notable celebrities. After graduation, she proudly worked for the Berlin Journal as a correspondent for the society section earning fifty cents an hour. In 1956, Monica began a 35 year working career for Wisconsin Power and Light which later became Alliant Energy. In 1959, she transferred to Madison, Wis., where she continued to live until 2014. During her teenage years, she became a dedicated fan of the Wisconsin Badgers Football Team and was a season ticket holder for over 50 years; only missing a handful of games. Monica enjoyed people and cherished her social and work friends from Madison, in addition to her friends from school and workdays in Berlin. She also enjoyed golfing, attending theatre productions, and traveling. Monica was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Madison, the Cherokee Condominium Association where she lived for many years, the Alliant Energy retirees community and much more. Monica married Hubert Schneider on February 14, 1981. Together they enjoyed many traveling adventures and many Badger games. “Hub” sadly preceded Monica in death on April 6, 1993. Survivors include her beloved sister, Marlene (Sierakowski) Gersch and brother-in-law, George Gersch; six nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and great-nephews; two great-great-nephews; and a large step family from her marriage. In addition to her husband, Monica was preceded in death by her parents and many other family members. A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 210 W. Hamlin St., West Salem. Father Douglas Robertson and Deacon Bob Zietlow will officiate. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m., Tuesday, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Jostad Chapel, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass Wednesday at the church. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., on Saturday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, Berlin, Wis.
