I'm sorry I can't be with you to celebrate Doren's life on Saturday. Every time I turn around in my house, I see something that reminds me of him. I also can't help but remember the song he sang a capella at my parents' table one Christmas Eve--something about a drunken Scot awakening with a blue ribbon around his whatsis, as I recall... He was a true friend, and I'm thinking of him and his family many times throughout the day. It's a joy and heartbreaking at the same time. Thanks again for all those raspberries, and sail away, Doren. Love, Robin

We are deeply saddened by the untimely death of Doren. He was a wonderful person and a great friend. He advised us on trimming our apple tree this spring and now it is laden with apples! He also enjoyed my home made peppermint schnapps with his hot chocolate at night. We will miss him always. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of disbelief and sadness John and Barb

I am so sorry to hear of Doren's passing. My condolences to your family. I remember riding the school bus into La Crosse with Doren, Roxanne and Sabin...Doren was always so nice to me. I ran into him later on in life, we had a couple of sodas, caught up and recalled those old school bus days. He was an accomplished person, such a zest for life. I'm sure he will be greatly missed. With deepest sympathy,

He was a good friend. Couple of years ago he made a frame for an oil painting of mine. I will miss his cheerful and smiley attitude. Sorry that he never got the chance to sail around the world like he wanted to, he told me that was his dream.

Doren was such a good friend to our family. We had many trials over the past few years and Doren was such a special person to see us through. He taught my daughter the love of the guitar, something she still plays daily. He really changed how I looked at the world and I will miss him dearly.

Doren could make anyuone feel like a million bucks! He was talented, artistic and fun. I believe he loved Wisconsin, music and nature....and was a dependable and supportive friend. I especially appreciated how he loved to learn new things. A really good guy. Best wishes,

Even though it has been years since I have seen Doren, I do remember he was a great musician. We enjoyed his singing/guitar playing. I remember as a child going to the Crooks house on Cty Trk K. They had a sign on their mailbox that said The Five Crooks. Our mother's, Eileen Walker & Vivian Crook were first cousins. We also enjoyed our time spent at your grandparents, Edith & Harry Wilcox in Money Creek. My deepest sympathy to all your family. God Bless you. Margie

I knew Doren in high school and graduated with him. Knew him well and went to UW-L with him also. We lost tract of each other when I went to Madison. Sorry to see him gone now. He was a good man and a good friend. Do have to tell one story from college. We had English together and at the end of the semester we got our grades. Doren got a D so he went to see the professor and I went with. He asked why he got a D when all his tests, papers etc said he should get a higher grade. The teacher told him she marked him down to a D because she didn't like his beard! True story, how things have changed. Another good man gone, and the world is sadder for it.

This was a horrible tragic accident to happen. We are still shocked about this. Just past a year after losing your Dad. Now Doren is with his Mom and Dad and I'm sure they are all very happy together now. You have our sincere sympathy at this difficult time. If there is anything we can do, please let us know.

Doren was such a special person! He was a true renaissance man; a jack of all trades, and master of many! He was a gifted musician, craftsman and sailor, and a genius when it came to making and fixing ANYTHING. But most of all he was kind-hearted, thoughtful and caring. The kind of person who would drive 20 miles to 'fix' something (that only needed plugging in), not charge you a cent for the trip and say it was worth it just to see you, (and really mean it). He brought the joy of sailing back into my life and helped me share it with many other people. May he find calm waters, good wind and a steady course. We'll miss you Doren!
