Condolences for John "Gump" Proft
I had the privilege of being John's baseball coach during his senior year of High School. He was a talented pitcher and shortstop. Above all else, Gump was a great team player and person both on and off the field. He will be missed by many but his memory and spirit will continue to be a special part of our lives as long as we live.

Spent some memorable times with Gump. Badger game weekend in Nebraska, concerts, or just throwing a (few) back in Arcadia it was always a pleasure to be around him. Never heard him say a negative word about anyone, what a good man! I will truely miss seeing him. Life is so fragile and things happen so fast. He wanted to go fishing and we never made it out. Gump you will be in the boat this spring. Bless you

John and I had many good times together in grade school, junior high school, and high school. Golfing with plastic balls in January with him and Butch Brown, being together on the baseball and basketball teams, playing wiffle ball at the backstop in the park, and many other good memories. At times, it seems so long ago, and at other times, it seems like just yesterday.
I will miss you, Gump.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Proft family. I got to know Gump during my time in Melrose. Always enjoyed playing softball with John and of course getting in a few rounds of golf. John will be missed.
