To live in the hearts and minds of those we leave behind

Let us help get you started

Condolences for

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this tragic loss. I could not believe my ears when I heard of the accident on the radio and Wayne's name was given. My heart just dropped. Wayne and I graduated from Logan in 1983 and I knew him since grade school on French Island through high school. He was always a fun loving, goofy guy but someone you could always count on. My sincere sympathies in your loss. The world has lost another angel, friend, dad, husband and good guy. God Bless all of you.

Carla and Carlie, I have such fond memories of your family coming to Monona to visit your mom, Sylvia for the many years that we were friends in our Duplex. I will always remember your great family greeting me as if I was a family member. You were all so very gracious and wonderful to me as I tried to be to your Mom and be of assistance to her. I will always cherish the fond memories of each of you! My prayers of healing to you and at this time when words are hard to find, may you know that God's comforting love and peace will sustain you!! My thoughts and prayers have been with you both, Carla and Carlie. No one can imagine your pain but I know you are surrounded by prayers of love and support. I met you, Carla, at a previous synod assembly and enjoyed our brief conversations so much; also knew you as a cousin of Alice. Blessings to you during this difficult time of grieving and healing.

About a month ago I was fortunate enough to see Wayne again up by "our" Innsbruck mailbox cluster. I hadn't been up there since Mike died. I was able to share this with Wayne. I was so happy to see him again. He talked a lot about Carlie, of course. Not that long after, reading of your accident brought me to my knees. Since then, you are held in my heart and my tears are shared with you. Amen.

About three decades ago, a customer where I worked was a Marine, probably in his thirties at the time. In typical USMC fashion, he "suggested to" (ordered?) me to sign up to be a pen pal, as mail call meant a lot to the servicemen. I did as I was told, and one of the guys I corresponded with was Wayne L. Burkhardt. As is typical, life goes on and folks lose touch with one another. So, in reading a news article about the accident, I find out all at once that my former pen pal was a married father ... and that his family lost their husband and Dad. How very, very sad! My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends. My World War II veteran Marine Corps father-in-law is living proof that once a Marine, always a Marine. Semper Fi, Wayne. Semper Fi.
